I hate living in Ireland

Ireland is a lovely place, full of friendly locals, cozy pubs and beautiful scenery. This is quite simply nonsense. While some parts of the country look nice, none of those parts have things like Jobs or amenities. I live in cork, which, i'm told, is really fun for a weekend. Im not here for a weekend. Im bloody stuck here.
Let me explain. Im not stuck here for long. My girlfriend is doing her masters, so when thats over we are free to leave. Im adamant that we have to go to london, and i think she agrees, but for now we have to grin and bear it in this hell hole.
Its not the fact that its dull, or rainy, or even that a pint cost close to a fiver. Its the general attitude to life that kills me. Every weekend people go to the same terrible clubs to piss their money away and then on monday morning come in and complain that it didnt live up to their expectations:
"went to fast eddies, but it was shit"
"really? Don't you go there every week though?"
"normally, and its normally a good laugh?"
"Really? You have said it was shit the last five weeks in a row"
"ah but thats just coz greg and shane are gone"
"ok so nothing to do with the fact that you're so institutionalised into small town ireland that you live for a crap club at the weekend but your so bored of seeing the same people who you dont really get on with since you were in school that you hate doing it, but shift blame onto the variety of reasons that your pathetic drinking hall will provide and refuse to accept that your life has not gone how it should and you feel a bit lost? you tool."

Water cooler chat, eh?

The attitude here makes me sick. Yesterday someone who i hadnt seen in a number of years asked me how things were going. We chatted about what we'd been up to since school etc..
She asked me had i done a year in australia. As if its a mandatory rite of passage, like holy communion, or discovering how to masturbate. "No" I said, "I couldnt imagine anything worse, like Ireland with a hot climate" It seemed like i'd strummed a chord constantly heard, but never defined. The look in her face was as if i'd just discovered how to turn lead into gold. She was amazed. She told me that was exactly how it was, and i was so right for not bothering with that sojourn, i smiled pretending that it meant something. I assume she'll be using my line at parties and social gatherings for years to come.
The sad thing was, that was probably the closest i came to accomplishing anything over the whole weekend. Cork is so empty. I didnt spend my time in a club getting wankered on saturday, recovering on sunday, which i suppose is an accomplishment in itself, but i really had little chance to do anything else. When i go to work on monday morning, people will ask me what i did and i'll say "piss all", to which they'll reply: "why not? are you saving money to go to Australia or something?"

I hate being in cork. Help me. It'll be the same crap every week.

This is brilliant... so its 2012 and a few years later since you wrote this, how did you get on? (did you make it out of Cork?) I'm here.. and well it's exactly the same. Dublin is no better either. I just feel like the sky is greyer here than anywhere else and the people just seem to thrive on ignorance. My new favourite activity is trying my best to leave. Glad i'm not alone! :)

I really hate Ireland. I can't understand how people endure the shit that happens every day here as if it's okay. People then go on about why people should love this country. I think I will get out of the country eventually but I will certainly have no happy nostalgia for this place. It will be good riddance and hope I forget it. If I ever manage to leave. Glad I'm not alone too!

I'm stuck in here for 10 years, so I know what I'm talking about. Forget the weather, It's people that is leading me to an early grave! They are FAKE. they are *not* friendly, they fake it , and it is so obvious. You meet lots of arrogant (for no reason), fake, shallow, shit talking ones here. i almost feel like I haven't met a human being here for 10 years. It's an ultimate Land of the Dead haha!
It is bit of relief to see I'm not alone ...

Wow I thought I was alone. Thanks for the hilarious comments haha. I have been here since Sept'2014 and regretting my decision everyday. I came here to study, what a dump. Why on earth do people shop so much, weekend are spend either drinking and buying clothes and unnecessary shit. I can't find a job either. So there goes that pipe dream.

Yes it's the pits. For a start this place can't even decide how to spell town names correctly - it's common to see one spelling on one side of town and another on the other side. The populace is divided into three types of people - illiterate cronies who have never left their home village, religious fanatics with the self-awareness of a road sign, and Celtic neo-pagans who think that crystals and angels can cure illness. That last one is necessary considering how abominable the non-health service is. The country is run by uneducated shop keepers who somehow got into parliament, probably by a few back-handlers here and there. No wonder the country only has the population of a small English city - everyone's emigrated if they've got any sense, mostly to England. All the girls are obsessed with track-suit bottoms during the week, and dress like prostitutes in night-clubs at the weekend, outside of which they can be found puking in the gutter at 2.30am on a Saturday night. There is a national obsession with traditional Irish music and hoardes of deluded third-rate players who think they're famous, due to the insular mentality which is all-pervading.

I'm Irish and I hate the place too but it's a bit like telling people you hate your family but if a stranger says something even mildly offensive then the gloves come off. The gloves are off. Yeah...we love the foreigners here...expecially the moaners who spend about one euro a month sitting around a table in a busy bar listening to trad music while ten of you sip on one diet orange fizz for three hours. Or how you go out on the town with locals and skip every round of drinks because you are all tight as a ducks arse. Or that most of you are either from some worse dump which makes North Korea sound like the Bahamas. What I detest is listening to some ignorant loud yank go on about his or her Irish roots just because they once wore an Aran sweater or how they thought Ireland would look like the set on "The Quiet Man". What is really annoying is how the yank will attempt to endear him/herself with the local people using their version of the local vernacular with "top o' the morning to ya"....what Irish person says that except for some stage Irish buffoon on a black an d white movie from 1934?. Don't mention the continental Europeans who all think they are all some type of existentialist intellectuals whose face would crack if they smiled and expect the local recreation to cost the same as some third world country their country has exploited. The Brits at least have some inkling of what to expect and assimilate well so they are the best of them despite our history . The rest of ye who complain about the weather? did you do any research? The fact that most Irish people are pale was a hint but then of course that takes intelligence or here's another clue...the fact that the landscape is quite verdant and lush might suggest that precipitation must be quite common unless the local farmers and fairies paint the grass green at night just for Johnny foreigner and his one euro. Alas, when you return to your Police States I am sure we will all just about survive knowing the one euro you spent here was well spent. As for the Orientals commenting...sadly we don't eat dog or any delicacy which includes chomping on a passing pet or infringe trade marks on a whim or sell harmful chemicals masquerading as fake eggs but I'm sure you will have great fun cutting through the local smog mingling with one million people per square yard on your return. I hate Ireland but I'm Irish and I have earned the right to hate this fucking place....as for you foreigners...go fuck off back home and take your unopened wallets and lack of personality with you.

I came across this blogpost ages ago and it aways pops up in my google researches when I need a bit of relief and need to know it is not just me.
I hate this place too spent 6 years working here , then moved to Switzerland for a year and now well, got married to an Irish girl and for the love of her I decided to come back .
We have been here over a year now and I am regretting the day we decided to move back here.
I have to put up with the high cost of renting a substandard accommodation , the lack of public transports , the total unaccountability of the people the shoddy looks of most of Dublin city centre.
I also hate spending nights out in dirty pubs having to put up with of fart and urine smells, let alone when have to hear justifications like "it was a business night". This place is pathetic.

My husband and I moved to Dublin a year ago. We had a pretty good idea of Ireland's climate before we came. It still suits us, but we're missing the thunderstorms our country has. What we definetly didn't expect and that took us aback are the Irish people. They talk of themselves and write everywhere (internet, newspapers, etc.) that they are brave, friendly, pleasant, kind people, while they are all the opposite. Most of our worst experiences we had so far in our lives have happened here. We came to work and live, to stay and have children one day, buy a house, but considering where we came, it's definetly not an option anymore. Apartments we've rented so far are not worth one third of the price we're paying. They are shabby, destroyed by dampness and mould, with furniture not even a garbage men would take, walls peeling paint, floors covered in skidmarks. Irish people are exremely irresponsible when it comes to paperwork and responsibility for anything in general. Apartment we own and are letting in our country while we're here is bright and spacious, with new modern furniture, all electronics new and all papers in order. While here it's like coming to middle east. Everything is dirty, people speak with slurs, stink and are very aggresive and don't have any manners. A 23 year old Irish guy working with me kept saying to me on daily basis how he can't wait to get home to his mammy..wtf?? They have an unnatural relationships with their mothers. Grow up people. What's with the ''We are 100℅ Irish owned company'' written over anything I buy? So you are ok with accepting money from European Union, but not accepting that nations who are part of it are having anything to do being in your country? Main thing is that YOUR children that are immigrants in our countries are not treated like you treat us. God I hate this place.

Left Ireland in 2010 for London. Lost our house in the crash and saddled with a debt of half a million for a poxy 3 bed semi in an estate which was marketed as "only a stroll out of town". Failed by a government corrupted by greed. Ireland had a great chance to do something special as such a young democracy but they ff'ed it up. With only a 60% turn out in the election, what an insult to the legends of 1916. Confirmation for me that Ireland is still full of ignorant selfish racist twats.
Luckily we had an escape option and it hurts a lot that we had to leave but its not the country it should be and I cant see it ever getting better. What the country needs is a revolution but it seems the Irish have no more fight left in them.
Good luck to ye all !

This is a place where all the criminals with death sentence should be sent for they would die slowly, veeery slowly! Ireland is not a place for human beings!
It feels like Alice in Nightmereland! Total anachronism! The worst version of the Parallel Universe!
If God was one who created these beings what he named Irish then I express my deepest condemnation and mistrust towards him!
Hope I will have a chance to get out of here and my bones will not lie into the soil of this disgusting place called Ireland!....

Moved back to this insular shit hole for family reasons which didn't exist. My awful sister is typically irish and 2 faced and controlling. The place is grey and almost 3rd world like. Watching so called athletes trying to compete in the Olympics is laughably amusing. After 30 years away from this kip I now remember why I left in the first place. The people are awful and false. Parochial and ignorant and the best this about the dump is the airport to leave

I am in my late fifties, but I haven't hear that someone in this world would voluntarily sacrifice him/herself for moral rape! This is exactly how does this country could be described in few words! I have survived communist regime in my country, but even them didn't manage to do in 46 years of my life what Irish did manage just in 12! I think it tells something... So my advisory for you is: stay were you are and die naturally,in peace or - chose a different country of your choice where else in the world for your retirement if you really want to do so!
...I never haven't cried so much in my life like being here! And take in account that I am a matured man...
So-decision is up to you,but you were warned by all the people who wrote here!
Blessings!

This is just a small thread on the big site and it is hard to find so specific thread.
If it were special web page dedicated to the topic I am sure there would be hundreds of people who could say their word regarding this country and people and to share their experiences!
Once again - do not move to here! These people are without inner culture and good manners, careless, heartless and arrogant. And in nowadays here is just one King what governs here - GREED! And his spouse is Darkness - darkness of the mind, darkness of the heart!
Hope I do not need to swear with my good health for you'd believe me!

Having typed 'I hate Ireland' into Google in a grumpy mood I am pleased to find I'm not alone in deeply regretting coming back here. After nearly 20 years in London, I can't begin to describe how depressing it is returning to rural Ireland. Have tried to argue my feelings about this place away, but I can no longer doubt that I had very good and sensible reasons for getting the hell out of this place the first time. Stuck here now and wish I'd listened to my sister who tried to warn me how bad it really is here. Totally agree with those above pointing out how the Irish are not the harmless, welcoming, jovial types of international fame. Great at self-marketing, but underneath it all, I see lots of small minded, ignorant, smug and grasping troglodytes with no national self-respect or respect for others - ready to knife you in the back if you dare to give a shit about having standards or do anything different. They love you if you're completely on your ass broke or ill - then they can pity you and feel superior. Nothing works properly over here and nobody seems to give a crap about changing things. I'm so afraid I'll just slowly sink into the hopeless turbid bog of drear and mediocrity and it makes me panic. Were it not for my ageing parents and my immediate family I would never set foot in this joke of a country again. I can't even bear watching Irish tv. Lowest point of last week was being too depressed to even lift a remote control and suffering through the unctuous bulshit magazine segments of those deeply irritating twats *Maura and Daithi* I could go on forever. Quite cathartic, this. Thanks internet person for providing a space to rant about this toilet of a place.

Stay in America!!!! I'm just back from a 3 week holiday in the US and I am so depressed! I live in Cork and just feel totally stuck here. My partner is Spanish and I'm Irish and neither of us can stand the place! The more I travel, the more I hate this country and having to come back to it. We both have good jobs here but feel like we don't belong and our standard of living over here is spalling. There is nothing to do, the weather is shocking, everyone is fake, ignorant, miserable and delusional. Irish people are so detached from reality and have a terrifying sense of self importance. They are also disgustingly nationalistic and racist. There is no health service here and I have personally suffered a tragedy at the hands of the HSE. The country is an absolute joke and most won't admit it. Everything is overpriced, there is no variety and the food is shockingly bad. The country also seems to be over run by scumbags on social welfare who have too many kids that my tax money pays for. We are supposed to be buying a house but the thought of settling here and being stuck forever makes me cry. I don't belong in this shithole! People in the US are generally pleasant, decent and have great manners, trust me, you won't find that in Ireland. I can also never understand why people think the Irish are nice, unable to see past the facade into the begrudging, spiteful, hateful fuckers that they truly are.

Unfortunately I can not to introduce a physical prove here, but the sad news are that my good acquaintance passed away recently (committed a suicide) because of the aspects you are mentioning in your posting!
He was 'lucky' enough to enjoy all the dirty aspects of the 'beauty' of living in Ireland for years and finally he gave up! He was left without any source of income (including the Social Welfare payments) what lead him to the street life,he 'enjoyed perfect medical service' what lead him to the particular loss of hearing, and kidney damage because of the neglect and incompetence of the medical stuff when he was waiting in the line at the hospital for 5 hours after road accident while on the bike!....
There are a lot of dirty propaganda information online about harsh life in Asia,Africa and Latin America, but HEY! Ireland is kind of Europe country, isn't it? SO - WHY things like this are happening inside EU? Why those dirty bastards in Bruxelles do not dear to control the situation inside their Empire?!!
Yes - and WHY Irish are so heartless?!
Has it something to do with their genetics or it is just a consequence of the installation of the life style by somebody else?!
It is not humane! Not at all!
Ireland is disgusting place! And not in geografical terms, but in terms of people, their mindset, heartlessness and cyborg like mindset!
All what I can say after the death of my pal is this - I curse you, paddies!
I know! It is such a terrible thing to say,but what else I can say?....

I was born and breed in ireland and most of these posts are correct
Ireland is a nation of begrudgers of other peoples success
the buses don't even run to any type of timetable and services are a joke we are a nation of "Sure it will be grand "mentality and rental prices are a joke 1500 euro a mounth for a 3 bedroomed house
As for the women, they are very manipulative, but they only learn this from their mothers as most irish men are submissive to their wifes(like their mammys)
I had to break this conditioning when I met my wife
The Irish won't admit anything is wrong
junkies everywhere and homeless everywhere
The government needs to get these wasters off the dole .

Unknown said...

I'm married to an Irishman and we have recently moved to the West of Ireland. This is just a green valley! It's not even urbanised. Only few small towns here and there. Nothing seems to be working. There are no buses to restaurants no cafes and no shops...nothing. And it's far more expensive than many other places within EU. And you guys are right, Irish people don't admit that anything is wrong. My husband doesn't know what I'm talking about. I think outside Dublin people are very conservative; they're more concerned with gays and abortions than with actual shortcomings in their country.
After living here for 6 months I've now decided to leave. I don't wish to be disrespectful to Irish people but I hope I don't see this place ever again.

Sadly, the Irish on here who defended this place displayed all the proof you didn't need that you're right about us. Especially the one who went on about how tight foreigners are. Unsurprisingly it's not obvious to her that a)without them most rural irish would have no source of income through tourism (or whatever we do to rip people off blind) and b) these people have much lower salaries than us so wouldn't be foolish enough to jump on our perverse 'cultural' bandwagon and buy ignorant uninteresting dopes they don't know overpriced drinks they don't need. Keep coming and refusing to do that, I say. We can't converse with you for a variety of reasons that are known to you. The best of us are ashamed of what and who we are. We may have an understanding of these things but since we can't justify ourselves since we have no excuse, all we could do is say sorry but that's a conversation that doesn't really go anywhere. The worst of us have no intelligence (except in self-enrichment at your expense), no intellect and absolutely nothing interesting to say or truthful thoughts or ideas about the world since all we think about are ourselves and getting money for nothing. We rare insular and inbred in mentality. We have no insight into ourselves or truth. We go all over the world but learn nothing from other people. We have no self-respect or truth in us. We can't see outside of ourselves and this pathetic little island we have destroyed. Screwing ourselves over folks. That's what we excel at. Stay away and tell everyone never to come. And sorry.

I would broadly agree with the above - Ireland is no bed of roses and many of the people suck. Many Irish women are so rude it's unreal - some literally pass remarks on men in public - seriously, they have no manners! In any case, many of them should look at themselves first and take of all that horrible lipstick and makeup so that others can see if they're actually human. Some could also look into nutrition and diet! As for culture - what culture - in my mind, drinking and watching soaps in not culture! The health system - what health system??? Don't get me started on transport policy and the cycling fad where in some cases, main urban roads are being reduced to country lanes to make way for the lycra louts. Rip off Ireland - despite the recession, it's alive and well. Justice - what justice - I don't think the Irish know the meaning of the word. Seriously, the Irish need to grow up!

Unknown said...

Oh, so those of us who hate Ireland are "losers"!

Well, I have this to say: I love the island and it's scenery - I cannot say the same for the general population therein. Many Irish women are just plain rude and many Irish men drink far too much as do many women. Then there are the Irish male lycra louts that rule transport policy - all for democracy, but does anyone care?

The entire country is brainwashed to think that they should be extremely proud about ireland, they are even brainwashing the people who come in from other countries, in my school i am freinds with a lot of Polish, Nigerian and other people from abroad and they all sound irish and don't even talk about their home culture unless it's racist, and they don't take credit for their history enough, they care about the easter rising but leave out the fact that they have vikings and normans in their history which many countries would be proud to have. the teenagers are all off kissing random people at night clubs drinking and smoking, my sister since living in ireland started smoking, drinking and kissing random boys. And don't get me started on the religeon. This country is a joke and people need to show ireland's true colours for the poor bastards like me who have to suffer through the shitty people, shitty school and the fact that they make people outsiders if they are different.

I used to live with 3 Irish people it was the worst situation I have ever faced. At work my Irish managers are as described above. I am looking forward from leaving this hell. I do not recommend my enemy to live here. God has cursed Irish people

The comments on this site are simply refreshing. I am a middle aged Irish male who does not yet have the opportunity to leave this country due to family responsibilities. Its not just one single thing, its a combination of the inward and retrospective looking mentality with a constant need to blame others for ineptitude and sheer laziness. It is the rewriting of historical fact with a republican nationalistic singularity that has brainwashed our children through our schooling system. Its the lack of willingness to take responsibility for oneself and to better ones socio economic standing, its easier to blame other's by way of excuse. Its the widespread abuse of alcohol and the prevalence of Irish only sports and schools where subjects are taught through Irish, which essential is a dead language. Its the history of corrupt politicians and the reluctance of Revenue officials and our legal agencies to pursue these veil parasites. Its the left leaning vocals with a great sense of entitlement that drains the PAYE tax payer with penal rate of income tax. Ugh, I cannot wait to leave.

And - do not show the exit door to those who were sent her for helping you! You might regret it some day very soon!....

I'm Irish & I've lived here most of my life, including the last 2 decades. And I resent many of the ill-founded comments here.
But actually the place IS a shithole for the following reasons:
1. The government & public service are bleeding the country dry with their massive & unfair share of the 'wealth'.
2. I'll repeat it (God was happy to repeat His first two commandments - more or less). The public service with their pensions, secure jobs, long holidays & much higher-than-average salaries are parasites (their many benefits completely unaffected despite 10 years of recession, when everyone else lost their job/car/house, had their pay slashed savagely (if they were lucky) and/or emigrated). In fact, when everyone else was turfed out, these pigs not only had the small cutback they suffered reversed, their regained 'loss' was back-paid!!!
3. The government are pigs, selling the soul of the Irish to the highest bidder.
4. Thus we now have our moral codes bastardised, with laws catering for sodomites & baby killers. Next dogs can marry, as Jean Claude Van Damme put it recently.
5. I'm Irish, but I'm not rascist nor xenophobic; however, much of our new bastardised laws are due to the vote & alternative views of the immigrants we welcomed.
6. The country is a rip-off. Everyone knows that.
7. But what many immigrants don't know, is that the extortionate costs come from extortionately high rates that every business MUST pay local government, on top of rents/taxes/stealth taxes that the public service/banks siphon off the few actually doing some work.
8. There are many lazy bastards in the country. Miraculously, they all appear to have clubbed together ensuring they do no work whatsoever yet live on a comfortable income.
9. And most of the lazy fuckers are corrupt public service types, as well as bankers/insurers & other 'service providers' such as electricity boards, various transport-related outfits, phone companies, etc who are masters at extracting a regular monthly income from YOUR bank account for doing absolutely NOTHING.
10. And I don't mean the poor disaffected guy on the dole with just a meagre stipend per week.
11. But I do also mean the lousy women who get themselves banged up early on in life with 3 or more children ensuring a fat salary for life. Lousy complaining scumbags who will never do a day’s work & can spend their whole useless lives on sites like this complaining about how shit the world is & how much it lets them down.
12. Unless of course they take up a job for a short time before taking up the ultra generous paid maternity benefits that again the worker alone generates.
13. You can add the typical Irish boss to this list, the greedy exploitative dog ready to rip the shirt off your back.
14. This was a completely impromptu list resulting from years of repression. If I had time & inclination I'd recount tales of 15. a pack of bullies (from childhood to boss-hood), 16. thieving scumbags, 17. the increasing criminality, including 18. the criminality in state institutions such as the gardai (police), 19. the pathetic health service, 20. the pathetic third world infrastructure (eg. no trains; the few trains going are dens for crime & 21. every other weirdo populating this shithole in droves). The place is absolutely fucking full of weirdos. You wonder are they those scientologists who stalked that BBC investigator so much he completely freaked out?
As I said, Ireland is a shithole, but it is a shithole hiving off other shitholes: UK, US, vested foreign interests incl. the unelected scumbags in the EU. And also off the thieving scheming robbers (banks), & other crooks such as uneducated merchants & developers. This is a breeding ground for criminal wealthy spoilt children of wealthy parents who mostly got their wealthy positions (incl. high professional positions like doctors & barristers), on the back of Daddy's wealth & influence.
You catch my drift - but not nearly enough of it.

Although Sunnybug is taking things a tad too far, there's some points to be noted. Many Irish people do come across as losers given the general apathy regarding the improvement of services, infrastructure and economic practices. I certainly do agree that when Irish society changes, the overseas perception thereof will also start to change. The biggest change that's need is in getting over the ridiculous property obsession - seriously, how can you be proud of a country that cannot even properly house its people? People have already died on the streets because of the ludicrous rent levels.

Regarding genetics, if it's by way of appearance, then it's a case of Irish people learning to wear what suits them (men in particular) and stop showing off their worst features - Irish men: given your shorter leg length, you've got to ditch the tight jeans and wear well fitted wide leg trousers (with some reasonable length to them) instead - many of you guys used to look good in 2010 with generous formal clothing, but since following the tight fit fetish, it has been something of a collective wardrobe fail - it really doesn't suit you! Tight button up shirts should also go - the world is moving on guys! If it's by way of intellect, then it's really a question of growing up and being prepared to confront narrow interests - for example, the lycra louts are getting away with murder at the moment and have far more representation than they should - they have this irrational hatred of cars and as urban roads get narrower (buses use roads too you know), it's irritating to say the least given the leverage they have. Dublin still has no underground rail system while there are difficulties in completing the motorway system due the small minded NIMBYism and serial objectors. Then there's all the litter (fly tipping) and graffiti - good graffiti art is one thing, but random tagging is quite another.

Time to stop blaming others - you have a independent country now with land aplenty for your population, so it's high time you did something useful with it!

@ Red Knight 2014
...Just take a look at how DavidKilledGoliath did join all these comments - 'fuck off losers, you know where the exit door is'!
Well...I am sure any more or less cultured individual would never put such statements in public! But - this is what is broadly accepted and typically used in this country since it is culture of 'Fuck' what is ruling here! And they do not forget to admit: I am proud Irish! I am proud of my culture! Really? Are you?
So,what is it you are so proud of? Proud of lying, tricking, talking bullshit non-stop?
Proud of being morally dirty? Proud of not keeping word? Proud of never being in time? Proud of being arrogant, ignorant, xenophobic and racists? Proud of visiting public institutions by wearing pajamas? Proud of not flushing toilets after business is done? Proud of leaving teabags in the sink, putting your feet on the seats in public transport, proud of your judicial system what is making laws on the go,proud of writing a reference letter on the piece of wrapping paper in the manner secondary school student does.....
So,dear Red Knight 2014,culture has very tide relation with genetics and one can't extract only certain aspects of behavior, habits or attitude while judging of how cultured or non-cultured group of individuals are!
Some things are personal, some things are impersonal! But impersonal comes out of personal I guess! While one can freely fart in the kitchen they can't do it in public and that's how we judge smallest or biggest groups of people expended even to the scale of nation!
Personally me I do not care if one is choosing opportunity to be a gay or lesbian,to fuck their mom or dad,to wear slim or loose pens,to eat chicken roll instead of having a good meal in the restaurant or watching telly 24/7 instead of growing intellectually and spiritually - all what I'd like to feel ad enjoy is - to be respected and accepted as a human being in this damn stinky piece of [separated] piece of land called Ireland a.k.a. Emerald Island!
For God sake! It is NOT an Emerald Island! It is not! It is only the territory where all the carefully selected idiots are living! And-sinking in their false imaginations and perceptions! And think they are important and valuable, but in fact they are nothing but parasite worms who are occupying the place without contributing anything good in the development of human race!

I hate to always talk about the weather, what I did on the weekends and what I did on my days off. The women are mostly insecure. Encountered the worst managers ever, bully, controlling and unfair. Thankful to God that an opportunity to transfer has come up. I rather encounter direct, frank people than those who seem very friendly but stab you when u're not around. If they think you did something wrong, they will go straight to your manager rather than inform or correct you. Tired of this situation. They said if you hate where you are, then MOVE coz you're not a tree. I will surely do!

Living for more than two years in Ireland, I have now changed my view about the place. I absolutely love it!

I can't believe that I'm writing this but it's true.

I don't wanna go back living in a crowded noisy city. I'm enjoying the peace and tranquility. I feel healthy and happy.

Give this place a chance.

Unknown said...

I've been living in Dublin for four years, I came here with an open mind and optimism to start a new life here. But, I hate it. Dublin just grinds you down and wears away your soul. The main reasons are:

The city. It's a very dirty city with not very much to do once you've done the touristy things, which doesn't take very long. I find it to be very boring.

The housing situation. You pay through the roof to live in squalor in a damp, mouldy, old house and are expected to be grateful for it. Rent goes up 4% every year, yet my wages don't.

The attitude of the people. Bitter and unfriendly Irish people who only social with Irish people from their group of friends from school and drink more than can handle and behave like absolute tools. And God forbid if you're English. If so, then be prepared to hear about 'what the English did to the Irish' back in 1916. It had nothing to do with me, nor my family, and chances are it didn't even affect you. Get over it.

The weather. The weather is NOT the same as England. It's always several degrees colder in Dublin than it is in England and commonly rains when it's not forecast to. And if you're lucky enough to have a sunny day, it's usually ruined by the wind.

The transport. It's useless and pretty much non-existent unless you just want to go to the city centre, which I don't.

Whilst each of these things individually tolerable, there are just too many negatives about this place. I can honestly say that moving to Dublin is the biggest regret of my life. And I'm not saying England is perfect, because it isn't. And, I'm sure there are places in the world that are probably better to live. But, I can tell you, Ireland certainly isn't one of them. I honestly cannot wait to leave this hell hole of a place!

Unknown said...

I don't know where to start. The lack of decent infrastructure, no parks, no benches (the knackers will reef them out of it, if you install a new bench)just dumb, autistic fields, no public transport, shops with no variety of produce, worst public service on the world, (to renew visa you must book an appointment 3 months in advance and that's if you're lucky, otherwise you must buy a ticket off some irish dog on Facebook). There is no feedback on anything, no complaints procedure, nepotism to the point of naseau. And we've saved the best till last: the population. The irish dogs (you cant call them a people) are the most racist, ugly, ignorant, arrogant, sneaky pieces of potato peeling wank you can ever imagine. Seriously, if you are planning on moving here, just don't. They will suck all the life out of you. The women are hideous, the men weak saplings who are ruled by their ugly bitches. Oh and they are obsessed about America, just obsessed, for them no other country exists. It's the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. I cant wait to leave here and I will fight tooth and nail with every paddy dog I ever meet.

My advice, DO NOT COME TO IRELAND. It will ruin your life.

I've been living in Ireland for few years and it was mistake to move here. The weather is shit, all is corrupted and dysfunctional, corruption is everywhere.. but it's still bearable but the people are the worst.. not all but unfortunately many are so fu* shallow and ignorant! there is no conversation about anything else except being wasted, trips to be wasted.. weather and some retarded sports like hurling with the most of them.. Work in here is terrible as bunch of retarded bullies and criminals are always in power, probably family connections e.g. like those who are now in charge of the country - FG and FF and labor, labor party that is just an imitation of labor party from UK! but of course you can find some positives.. mostly not made by Irish like e.g. beautiful scenery, picturesque nature.. and if you prefer solitude as lot of empty places, strands to be and to enjoy ,and food is good also and probably natural! and of course some people are nice as well.. I met definitely more than few who are as angry as I'm about the retarded majority who votes like zombies for always the same mafia once from FG once from FF!

Love this synopsis. I'm back after 20 years in London and can't agree more with your take. After 7 months, I'm shocked, depressed, lifeless and frustrated. Nothing gets done quickly. There's no decent community areas, public transport is unreliable, don't get me started on rent prices and the cost of things in shops is eye watering. I'm bored, exhausted and feel like there's nothing to look forward to here. I don't get how people can be happy here.

BUT, i'm sick and tired of those fucking idiots driving here, with not A FUCKING IDEA how to drive, doing ridiculous manouvers, blocking all traffick with their stupidity! Whre the FUCK is police??? Another thing, standard of accomodation is a damn JOKE!I pay over 900 euro for the "apartament" where is lack of FUCKING WATER! Pressure is like bleeding nose, the mold grows all over the place, because WALLS ARE NOT INSULATED, and all fucking heat just dissapears after 5 minutes. Prices are ridiculous according to the quality of services. Restaurants employ "waiters" who can't even COUNT TO FUCKING TEN!, and food is fucking disgusting. I'm sorry, but i had to share my experiences here. I live in this shithole from 14 years, and i'm moving back home next year. I can't take it anymore. ONLY thing which is good in this moldy island, is MONEY. That's why i lasted here so long. Otherwise, it is a 3rd world country, overpriced and over talked BIG TIME. Thank you for your attention.

Listen all... I am really sorry for what i have said about Ireland, but it is what i feel. I really respect Irish people and Ireland itself, and i don't want to make anybody feel bad about your country. It is just my personal opinion. I know i am foreigner here, and i can leave whenever i want, and i will soon. Anyways, Ireland has a bright sides too of course! It's beautiful country, and Irish people are very nice in most cases. I didn't wanted to abuse anybody. I hope you forgive me my frustration, but i just feel that i do not belong here. I wish Ireland and all Irish people ALL THE BEST, and i will always support you in the future. Best regards from Polish man. Biggest respect to all of you!

DavidKilledGoliath said...

KanapkaZeSmarem, you're forgiven!!
And I'm sorry that things aren't working out for you here. I can assure you that even the Irish feel your pain about the cost of living, price of cold, damp, noisy accommodation, sh*t drivers on the road and of course the weather haha :)
Just look at the election over the weekend - everyone here, including the Irish, is angry with the mistreatment and unfairness.
I have been lucky enough to make friends with many Polish people who have brightened up our country - I really mean that. I and many others admire the Polish very much. As with every country, there are some a55h:les here, too, who don't welcome foreign people, but most Irish do. It is the same in most countries, there's always an underbelly of disaffected losers who take out their anger on the poor foreigner, the outsider, the easy target - but most people are a bit more mature than that. I hope you choose to stay if you really want to, and I hope you find people who help you realise you DO belong.
For the first time, I feel positive - I hope this election brings real change and reward to the people who truly deserve it, but not to the backstabbing criminals who have got away with so much for so long.

It kinda just sounds like you're not hanging out with like-minded people, you can find those believe it or not in Ireland. And I'm saying that and I don't even want to remain living in here. You'll probably miss home when you leave, take itfrom someone who has lived abroad. I still want to move though for job reasons and basically for hotter taller men and better weather lol. UK is not that amazing. The tories are shady af!

I will start this off by saying I am a relatively new resident of ireland, having moved here about 9 months ago after marrying my Irish husband. Prior to that, I had visited several times, with the longest trip being about 45 days. I am American, and have moved to the country here, in Mayo county. Although I love my husband immensely, I am not at all happy here. I love the privacy that we have living out in the country (to a certain extent), but find many things absolutely shocking and disappointing about this country.

To begin with, let’s start with health care. Or rather lack thereof. I have spent the past 9 months reaching out to different doctors offices in the surrounding towns, all to no avail. Can you imagine that? I have literally called over 30 doctors offices, all to be told that they are either full and not accepting new patients or just as often, they won’t answer and of course they don’t have a voicemail and what’s more they don’t even have a website or email address to contact! It’s shocking to me! I’ve been forced to email the HSE to be allocated a GP, and of course have yet to hear back from them.

Private Anon said...

Part two of the last post above*
Despite the lack of doctors, I was mandated by regulations to have private health care (a requirement for stamp visas which is what I have). So of course, as a law abiding person I paid for my private health care which cost me about 1,300 a year. Long story short, I pay for health care in a country that does not have a doctor available to me to provide me health care. Even if they did, I would be forced to pay for something like 50% of the costs of those visits!

Last week, I was forced to go to the ER to see a doctor because of my heart. Of course, I’ll now have to pay 100 euros for a visit that took about 9 hours long. Not even actual rooms were available, but little room like structures made from curtains. My goodness! Ugh…

I was then referred to a private clinic for more testing, which guess what? AGAIN MY INSURANCE WONT COVER that testing, so another out of pocket expense! In addition, the referred clinic can’t see me for about 6 weeks! How absolutely insane…

Moving on to dental: I was on a waiting list for 4 months to see a dentist for a cleaning and to attend to my tooth ache. She was late to see me, her “cleaning” took about 5 minutes, was done with a hand tool and was honestly the worst cleaning I’ve ever had in my life. For a whopping 80 euro!!!! In the USA, basic dental care like cleaning is covered free, even without private health insurance. I’ve since attended two other dentists, both were horrible in their cleaning thoroughness, although slightly better than the first dentist.

The miserable arrogant attitude of people is actually sickening. It makes me sick the bullying by low level educated people in various jobs, the high tax and shit infrastructure makes it all so much worse.
I have been living in Asia for the past year and in places such as Vietnam and other places. Everything and I mean everything is so much better than Ireland. The people show basic respect to you, the students in schools respect you,the food is affordable and healthy for you, the infrastructure and healthcare is amazing (€900 for dental work I had to do at a top class clinic here).
Ever since coming here I feel so much more happier than I ever did in my home country . I am depressed to go back home really. All the foreigners there I am sorry for you that are suffering. Ireland is a backwards country and I will be moving to somewhere in Asia

Ireland - OVER RATED, OVER STATED, OVER PRICED & OVER HYPED. High taxation, High cost of living, High crime rate, High drug use and high social risk rates make it impossible to live or visit under a budget of €1,000/wk. It is a theocratic pseudo state run by the papal nuncio and not the president of Ireland, who live in the same park as The Papal Nuncio (who control most of the countries charities, properties, lands and Irish Wealth). High Rain and poorest weather in Europe add to the depression. Gov't spends money promoting tourism for unwary visitors who [once they discover they poor weather, toilet mouthing, foul cursing, and extortionate cost of living] are left in no doubt they won't be returning. Plagued by troubles of all sorts and a high corruption level in local government, this Theocratic regime [a banana republic of sorts] has been forced by Europe to pay-up or fine-up. If you try to book a hotel in drug infested Galway City for a week, you will need well over €1,000 or rent a flat well over €2,000 euros. Now rated as one of the most expensive countries in Europe (outside top 40), our crime ridden, over-inflated, super-expensive, potty mouth island is rapidly losing its appeal. While I understand if one is a state-funded alcoholic (alcohol abuse is prolific) they may have some fun in the rain or kill the pain of the place. I am Irish and don't like what unaffordable Ireland has become... OVER RATED, OVER STATED, OVER PRICED & OVER HYPED.

What a shithole Ireland has become. I am Irish and I ashamed of what it has become. Everyone is completely FAKE & ARROGNAT. Including family, my own family and siblings and their partners. It's disgusting, you can see and feel the fakeness of every person including said family. I am ashamed to be Irish for this reason, I can't believe how horrible the people have become. I do blame other influences as part of it, but I just feel this is always the way these people are. Thankfully I have left the shithole, I am so much happier to have left, for the first time in my life I have met real people who are kind to you and show basic empathy and a basic kindness which you don't get in Ireland. Ireland is a nice county, but the people are the most miserable bunch of bastards and bithches I have ever had the misfortune of meeting. Again I am Irish, but I only consider myself Irish in name not in vain
